Keyset

Keyset is a place where small landlords and their tenants keep their rental in order: rent, repairs, leases, documents and messages. This page says what information Keyset keeps, why, and who else handles it.

What Keyset keeps

  • Your account: your name, email address and language, and your password stored only as a one-way hash.
  • If you sign in with Google: the name and email address Google shares. Keyset asks Google for nothing else - not your contacts, files or calendar.
  • What you put into Keyset: properties, units, leases, rent records, repair requests and photos, messages, documents and inspections.
  • When you sign a document: your typed name, the time, and the internet address and device you signed from, printed on the signed copy.
  • Small cookies that keep you signed in and remember your language and time zone.

Who sees it

A landlord sees what concerns their own properties; a tenant sees what concerns their own lease. Partners a landlord shares a property with see that property. Keyset does not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Services that handle it for Keyset

  • Vercel hosts the app; Supabase stores the database and files, in a private storage area.
  • Stripe handles online rent and deposit payments. Your bank details go to Stripe, never to Keyset.
  • Gmail sends Keyset's emails. DeepL or MyMemory translate messages between English and Spanish.
  • Google (or OpenStreetMap's Photon) suggests addresses as a landlord types one in.
  • Google handles "Sign in with Google".

Keeping and deleting

Records are kept while your account is open, because rent and lease records are needed for taxes and disputes. To have your account and its information deleted, or to get a copy of it, email the address below. Some records a landlord must keep by law - payments and signed leases - may be kept for as long as that requires.
